Thread: any 1 in glasgow give me a loan of a torque wrench?

    Default any 1 in glasgow give me a loan of a torque wrench?

    hi guys&girls i had 2 snapt bolts in my wheel hub i have got them out but need a short loan of a torque wrench to torque the Brake caliper carrier to hub bolts back up plus the Brake disc to hub locating screw bolt the wrench needs to be able to go up to 230Nm as im skint and cant aford a wrench that wll go that hi so any 1 in or near glasgow that can loan me 1 for a short spell? or know where i could rent or buy a cheap 1? and i know i need lock thread on the bolts to before some 1 says lol



    PS IS THAT THE RITE SETTING 230NM?? is that not rather hi?

    Sorry, I just went and checked mine goes nowhere near, and I agree 230Nm seems VERY high.

    If yours goes to 200, I would set it for that then 45 degrees on top.

    CHEERS FOR LOOKING MATE, i dont have 1 full stop, but the dosh there asking for 1 that gos up that far is a lot, lol ok its not if saftey is at risk, but a just aint got that sort of cash at the mo, oh well looks like my cars off the road for a wee bit longer lol

    The torque settings for the brakes etc are as follows:

    a: Rear Caliper Slider Bolts 30Nm or 22lbf ft
    b: Rear Pad Carrier Bolts 130Nm or 96lbf ft

    c: Front Caliper Slider Bolts 30Nm or 22lbf ft
    d: Front Pad Carrier Bolts 230Nm or 170lbf ft

    e:wheel nuts 110Nm or 81lbf ft

    Have you tried a hire shop mate if you were closer then Glasgow you could have borrowed mine but the south coast is a bit far.

    cheers for clearing the nm setting up for me mate looks like im looking at ebay or a hire shop for a torque wrench then lol

    I bought mine at Bill's tool store in the Barra's it was about £30 second hand and had been then been tested it is quite accurate for the money I can't complain!

    I did my front discs and pads,did'nt bother with Torq Wrench,in fact iv'e never used one,and had no trouble at all,just thread lock em and use a longish bar to tighten up.and long as you dont go mad,they'l be fine.

    The correct torque is 230Nm, but as Macdad says, loctite and a bar will nip them up enough. I too have done thousands of sets of pads/discs and never used one yet. But it is of course, best practice to do so.
