    Default DIY Wheel Refurb

Well after many months of hunting for a 5th alloy to replace the world's dullest space-saver spare wheel, about three weeks ago I managed to source a single GSi alloy at a sensible price.... £36
    Attachment 31860

gave it a good wash down... removed the valve remains and gunge from sticky weights... sanded back with 400 grade wet n day then scratches filled with the primer/filler from a Halfords stonechip kit
    Attachment 31861

sanded back again with 1200 grade wet n dry, prepped with residue free de-greasing wipes then sprayed with Halfrauds silver Wheel & Wheel Trim paint...6 coats from all angles, inside and out over 2 days
    Attachment 31862

then finally we managed a dry day so it was back out for 4 coats of Halfrauds Universal Clear Laquer to finish..... apart from then realising the centrecap was still the old faded colour, so stripped, cleaned, sprayed and laquered that too. Not a concourse finish - if you get within a couple of inches you can still see a couple of minor scratches, but I'm happy with it. New from Vx - £200+ ..... refurbed by me - around £60.

Good job, will be doing similar myself if I can ever track down a single 17 inch alloy (detest the space savers) so grateful for the tips!

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Hopefully, this might nudge one or two people who have been 'teetering on the brink' into having a go themselves. It's not hard or expensive to do a good job yourself.
