    Default Service and Cambelt costs

Phoned VX on Friday for a price on a service for a 1.8 Vec Sri, £69 not bad I thought so then I went on to ask how much for a Cambelt change.........£300-£350................F... me that's what they take for a V6!!!! so I said thanks and I'll have to think about it lol.

Anyway having Trade Club available to me I totted up the parts for a full service along with Aux Belt, Tensioner, Cambelt Kit and Waterpump and I'll get the lot for under £200, so it looks like I'll be doing it myself, Got the Inspection 1000 coming up so it'll be getting done at the end of the month

Is that the Arnold Clark "monkey" service or the VX service?
If it is the "monkey" service then it is aftermarket parts and 15W40 oil

I would suggest you ask what they do for £69 and confirm that the service is to VX specification
You may find that is the price for the intermediate service (oil, oil filter, and pollen filter)
Also ask what grade of oil they use, it should be 0W30 to GM-LL-A-25
If not, you need to ask why not as that is what VX specify

Phone a few others in your area (I know there aren't many within the Kirkcaldy area)
Take into account any travel costs
I would suggest Curtis (they are one of the few remaining independents in your area) although it is not so easy to get to/from
The Arnold Clark in Glenrothes would be easier
Ironically £450 all in may be just as about the same

You could also do what I do
I use one that I have been using for years, it is not the nearest to me
I drop the car off as soon as they open, have breakfast, then go to the cinema
At the end of the first film I phone them to see how the work is progressing
If it is looking like it will be several more hours then I watch a second film

My MoT is due and Iron Man 2 is on at the cinema, good timing

    It depends...
The CinemaWorld in Glasgow, once you have passed the front entry you can go to any floor and any screen
The staff make no effort on any floor afterwards (they assume you have passed the entry check)

After watching the first film I go to the promenade and phone the dealership from there
If I have several hours to pass, then I look at the screen to see what other films are on that may be of interest
I've only done it once (the second film was something I wouldn't have gone to the cinema to see)

A long time ago I went the Showcase Glasgow
The first film lost the sound several times
    The other people didn't complain
I left after twenty minutes. was given my money back, and asked if there was any other film I wanted to see (as they only had one copy of that film)
So I watched The Matrix instead (just as well I did, I hadn't intended on seeing it)
