    Eek paranoid DMF noise

Hi all was parking the car tonight and had my radio off as on the way home was trying to find the source of an annoying rattle that has developed, so stopped the car handbrake on neutral and lifted the clutch and heard a kind of vibrating rattle sound, so dipped the clutch again and brought it half way up and the rattle noise started again and stayed untill i either fully depressed clutch or let it fully up, this only happens when the car is in neurtral, when in gear i get no rattle noise when at biting point, is this normal and i havent noticed or is it the dreaded DMF only when brining clutch to biting point in neutral do i hear this.

to be fair the tests you have done with ya foot is the way to check for it ...if it stops when ya put ya foot down i would say it is the duel mass pop along to a dealer and get them to confirm it ..... it may last tho and just rattle for every more ...

Yeah that is the death rattle but this isn't the sign of an immediately high bill.

Mines has been rattling for the past 70k/40months however as the miles rack up the rattle will become apparent when idling as mines is now and when revved in neutral it will do it too.

I would say you have a while albeit it could last the next 5 minutes or it may never go in your ownership - God forbid its the former, however all I can say is if it is in warranty then the dealers is your first port of call on Monday if however its not - start saving.

PM hairy31 as he found a good place in the North East somewhere that changed his for £600ish i beilieve.

where is the dmf in the engine bay, got the wife to press clutch at biting point while i listened with the bonnet up and the noise is coming from the right hand side of the engine just about in line with pollen filter and about half a foot out from the scuttle, looking face on.

That's it, it actually sits in the gearbox housing bolted onto the right hand side of the engine down between the Engine block and Battery compartment.
