    Default Winter tyres

How many people run different rubber in the winter months, after last winter I am seriously considering getting a set of steels and snow tyres cheap during the summer

I had a good mate with another 9-5 running Michelin Alpin tyres and in comparison to him my car felt like a drunk puppy on teflon his was welded down!

We got a fall of snow arrived around mid December and left us early Feb this year and it was truly trecherous up here

We had to walk to the Supermarket on Christmas Eve otherwise we would have gone hungry, simply I could not get the car out of my drive and down the vedry steep hill I live atop for about 9 days!

plus ice, we generally have about three months where you can easily get constant below zero nights, so when you have to get up for the airport at 4.30am and the gritter's are still in bed,,,,,,,,,

I had some 19 inch vredestein wintrac extremes fitted as I am based in germany... came back on xmas leave and put it this way everyone is struggling to do 30mph down the a303 and im ploughing down the uncleared fast lane at 60 without even feeling a lack of grip. They are well worth the money.. and after being sceptical myself I wont be going without in the future.

The rubber compound isnt just for snow. Normal tyres start to lose there normal properties when the temp nears zero. They have better traction on frosty days and because of the deeper tread pattern they are great in the wet (which we do have lots of)

But they do wear down quick... especially with the 2.8 lump

Hi Luke, Yes thats what I am hearing from those who have experience of them and Vredestein get the good nod too and are affordable, perhaps a pair of steels on the front come November then
