    Default 1.9 CDTi upgrade choices

My 2008 Elite 1.9 CDTi 150 is still under warranty, so it is completely standard. When the warranty runs out I am considering increasing the power for a bit more fun. I am aware that there are two 'easy' routes I could take:-

1 - buy and fit (or have fitted) a tuning box, such as DTUK.

2 - have the ECU remapped

I am interested to know the pitfalls of these two options, especially whether the known 1.9 CDTi 150 problems around the EGR valve and swirl flaps will be more likely to happen after an upgrade (my standard 2006 Astra 1.9 CDTi 150 has had problems with the EGR valve, swirl flaps and glow plugs - all repaired under warranty. It even went straight through its second M.o.T. yesterday with almost 90,000 on the clock).

My personal opinion is that a tuning box can cause more soot due to overfuelling when you don't need it which in turn will cause more buildup in the inlet manifold and swirl flaps.
A map controls the fuelling exactly over all conditions so will not overfuel, hence less soot.

If you don't mind the yellow engine light being on, then you can blank the EGR completely, car runs perfect and no soot buildup.

I would go for a decent re-map, it is the best way to go. I ran four 1.9 150's and did high mileage in them and all were re-mapped and didn't have any issues.
