Depends what he's saying is "loose". If it's just play in the front suspension then drop links, anti roll bar bushes, suspension strut top mounts/bearings, lower arm ball joint or a few other bits are quite common.

If he's talking about the chassis being loose then you have bigger issues.

dunno about the lamps but springs can replaced with secondhand ones for about £20, the ball joint will mean a new wishbone for £60, anti roll bar bushes about £12, droplinks £15.. Nothing hard, I have done all those bits on my own car by myself (except the wishbone but i watched that being fitted and they did not charge me much to do it, less than an hour)

All cars have things that wear out and replaced but once there done there done and your car will last longer, you can buy another car but you will do through the same thing soon enough as somebody will wanted to get shot if it like you are thinking of doing..

If you've got the old headlamps still kicking around, that's an easy fix, swap them back in for the MOT and back out again afterwards. Otherwise you may have issues, LED bulbs can cause all sorts of issues on the Vec C.

Spring, again an easy fix, replace that axle's springs (always do the pair). I've got a full set of 4 standard SRi springs if they're any use to you (check your axle weights on the drivers door pillar) that you can have for £50 for the full set or you may get a pair cheaper on Ebay or something.

Lower suspension ball joint is a bit ambiguous, it could well be the lower arm needs replacing but it could also be the drop link (a lot cheaper and easier to do) I'd seek clarification if possible.

Suspension arm rubber bush is most likely the Anti Roll Bar bushes but again I'd seek clarification to be sure.

That doesn't sound so bad, as has been said, if you're up for it you could do a lot of it yourself. If not quotes not bad.
I spent £400 on the MoT for my 52 plate Omega last spring, wrote it off at the end of August, was I gutted or what!

Cant believe you got charged £400 for the timing belt and water pump. You proper had your pants pulled down there matey. I fit them for £250 using OEM parts.
