To be honest mate, any of this lot will be fine...

Laptop's are pretty all the same anyway - they have to be as the company's want your business. You can build your own PC so the market isn't really there in the same way, but laptops are a different kettle of fish so have to be good value...

    I personally reccomend this bud:

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pav...36519-pdt.html

Has 320BG hard disk, and 4GB of RAM which is sufficient for your requirements.

It also had memory stick and DVD RW Here are the specifications:

Wouldn't touch PCW with someone else's barge pole. They charge too much, they don't know what they're doing and when it goes wrong you have to pay through the nose for technical support only to be told it's your fault.

I have 3 laptops, all second hand IBM's, 4-5 years old and still running faster now than most store brought laptops will be 6 months from purchase. It's about build/parts quality. One even runs as a webserver 24/7/365. Tough little barstewards they are.

I recently was tasked with repairing a new PB laptop with a broken power connector, I was horrified to find that the RAM while 2GB or so was just some cheap rubbish from china and spec'd lower than the 768MB of RAM in my 5 year old IBMs..... The processor was fast enough, but it's like buying a 911 and replacing the exhaust with a pea shooter.
On top of that it's plainly obvious that it was designed to last no more than 3 years! which in my opinion is simply disgusting!

Your best bet if you insist on a new laptop is avoid the highstreet shops and pay less online from a decent retailer.

I was in the same situation recently, and I umm-ed and aah-ed for ages before plumping for one of these 4Gb RAM. 500Gb Hdd. The build is a bit plasticky compared to my work Dell Latitude 630, it's only got two USB ports and the speakers aren't up to much, but the display is excellent. Good value for £399.

Apple Ipad UK release date just announced (May 28th) with prices starting from £429, Might be worth a look..

Actually, you might get a better deal on a normal laptop when the ipad is released, Laptop sales in the US nosed dived after the ipads release due to people buying apples latest offering..
