Have you had water in the footwells recently caused by blocked scuttle drains?
not that i have noticed no ive tried all the fuses by the passenger door they were ok but it sounds like thats where the clicking noise is coming from does that make sence
The heater fan is located behind the glove box. The resistor pack which controls the fan speed fails due to water ingress via the pollen filter from the scuttle tray.
Best to check that the drain in the scuttle panel is not blocked. There are plenty of threads on this forum about this issue and how to repair it (and the speed controller).
My one had the very same problem, new resistor pack and problem solved.
There is a thread, saying get a thermal fuse from maplins for approx 69p, and replace the cream-crackered one in the resister pack.
Saves the cost of a complete resister pack.
Check for damp patches on the passenger side floor...also check your scuttle panel for blockages / over-flowing.
There is also a how 2 for cleaning the important side of the scuttle panel..(one of mine )
thank you for all your input will give it a go the weekend let you know thanks again
if it works on 4 but not properly on 1-3 then it could be resistor pack as said, or it might be a relay. the relay failed on mine - i've just replaced it today. to check the relay take out the glove box and it's on the left hand side behind the fuses. the one you want is blue and rectangular (that's the click you can hear on setting 1). you can take the housing off it and watch for the relay contacts closing when you select speeds 1-3.
if it is a problem on all speeds including 4 then i think the problem is not the resistor pack or blue relay as speed 4 takes a power feed from another relay that doesn't need to go via the resistor pack or blue relay (hence the 2nd click on 4). it's a direct power feed to the motor. this is from memory so let me know exactly what happens and i'll check the diagram for you. in this case it's almost certainly related to the motor or control...
