Leave it locked with the windows up,it'll be fine......
How long you away for - 2 years?
Otherwise do what glenboy said.
Why handbrake off ?
hang your keys outside while your at it
This helps prevent the pads "welding" to the discs
I've had a few cars in storage
If it is more than 2 months :
remove the battery (don;t just leave it in the garage, place it in the house; kitchen for example)
place the car hard as near to one wall as possible
apply a wheel clamp on the front wheel
remove the alloy wheel lock from the car
Place the keys (all of them) in a sealed envelope and leave them at a relatives house (that way if the house is broken into they won't find the keys for the car)
usually park at airport so all this leaving car at home is new to me lol

let me use your car whilst your away thus noone will steal it
Getting the battery into the car would require either the key or breaking a window of the car (other methods are available, but take too long)
Once they have got the battery into the car they will have great difficulty starting the car (from memory reconnecting the battery causes the alarm to go off and you need the key to silence it)
Alternatively, just steal the battery!
Anyway, it's only a Vectra most thieves would give in after 15 minutes, there are better cars out there to steal
