Default 1.8 vvti, lack power low revs?????

hi ive noticed that my sri 1.8 lacks power in 1st and into 2nd gear unless you rev it a bit, this is annoying as you think its gonna stall! when its up to 3rd ,4th, its ok and runs ok in top gear, is this normal on these engines or is there a fault that needs looking into ? cheers mitch

I find in mine 1st and 2nd plenty of pulling power then 3rd,4th need to reved fairly hard to feel it and 5th is just a slug for motorways and reving that hard in 5th is at silly speeds.

Mine is exactly the same mate, if you don't give it enough gas on the way into second, it seems to 'lag' and although smooth does not pull strongly until it reaches slightly higher revs. Its no biggy and I have learned to drive the car differently to copy with it

It's not a slow car though, it goes off like a startled cat once past 3,500 revs in all gears.

Incidentally, I have not done the air-box mod yet either, I was worried in case it had an affect on my MPG.

Affraid thats a trait of a VVT engine, keep the revs up

Your more used to diesels which have the power low down

    Yep agree with others.
I find it fine, kinda 2 cars in one.
Below 3500 revs a little slow but very good mpg.
Above 3500 pretty quick, a bit loud and only average mpg for size.

Also not done air-box mod as I tend to think it is more in the head then on the road.

Do you get a rumble if you dont give it more revs?

    Kev,

Check the how 2 section for the airbox mod.

It's meant to give you better throttle response and maybe a couple of horses,

Let us know how you get on
