Exclamation Dpf regen is this normal???

Hi all pulled Into homebase today and I always let engine tick over for a minute to let turbo cool down when I opened the drivers door the heat came out under the car was like a fire burning I kneeled down and no word of a lie the dpf and exhaust system was glowing red nearly White hot it melted my cable ties that hold my towing socket wires on and there was clouds of smoke pouring out the exhaust ppl were looming at me and saying your car is on fire I could not even stand near the boot asthe exhuast gasses were burning my legs I let it finish as my fuel was Reading 1.2gal an hour compared to normal 0.1.

Is this normal should it get this hot or not I know they regen but surelynot this hot my cable ties are just a melted blob now and my back bumper has very faint signs of heat damage where the gasses come outof the exhaust

I am guessing that as the cycle would take place on a run the air would cool the exhaust as you drive? and once complete it would naturally cool back to working temp but if caught out as you were on a day like this and parking up it wall act like a heat soak and radiate the warmth out in an y way possible.

I am quite pleased to know this,as I would rethink my activity if I get caught this way.

Only got 2 on mine. One was the probe that leads up to a connector down the back left of the engine. The other leading up to the little box to the right of the fuel filter.
