    Default Second Service

Phoned my dealer today to book it, Arnold Clark Linwood, all sorted except they said its £175 for the 2nd service, but the 1st service I had done on my car was only £99 why the £76 difference in price.

secondly, what additional things are they meant to do in the second service that are carried out in the second service but not the first to justify the extra £76

also, see when a car turns 3years old, do they just disregard the 3rd service, 4th service, 5th service ****, because my dealer also does fixed price £99 major services, which they will only carry out to cars over 3 year old, and my mk3 astra gets 1 of these every 10K miles rather than the 6th service 6years/60K miles service as specifically stated in the service book or is there stuff a plain vauxhall dealer major service wont include that an actual 3rd service, 4th service etc. would specifically include depending on what car it was.

all this specific servicing, 2nd service, 3rd, etc. confuses me a bit as I've never had a car under 3year old before so I'm used to just saying "car needs a service," and they (any garage) looks at the price for a bog standard service and says, thats £79 etc. not "oh its 2years old, they are meant to get new remote batteries **** thats another 100quid"

lastly, is anyone else allowed to service my car other than a dealer but still keep the warranty and do many independent garages have a tech2/facilities to reset the service due light.

your a brave man using that lot, im never using them again

You can keep the warranty valid by using genuine VX parts if using a non vx garage if you use non vx parts then your waranty is knackered i think..

I just got my 2nd service done on Monday there, £280 it cost me I got the brake fluid changed and the air con serviced as well though ! Think it was £55 for the air con service & £50 for the brake fluid change & £175 for the actual servicing itself so your quote of £175 does seem to be the norm

Spot on - as long as they are VAT registered and use genuine parts VX have to honor your warranty

I would find another garage, try Greenhous in Stoke just to compare price!

I'm presuming your car's on Ecoflex servicing - that's about what I paid for my second service, possibly a bit less as well.

The service book tells you all the additional tasks they're supposed to carry out on the second service - things like air and fuel filter IIRC

I'd rather give anyone twice as much than give it to arnold clark.

    Anybody read this?

As Gil said, ANY garage can service your car and you'll keep your warranty as long as they use GENUINE vauxhall parts and oils..keep the receipts for the filters and fluids..

you also don't need tech2 to reset the service light, you can do it yourself..

sit in the car, press the brake pedal and the trip reset in the dash..turn the igntion key to stage 2, while not letting go of the pedal or the reset stalk...

now hold like this for about 20 seconds and the lefthand display in the tacho should change and show a mileage figure..My Gsi is 21,000 but our CDTi 150 is 13,000..the service light is now reset...

If I get time I'll call a few dealers round here & see what the going rate is.

    Mine's due in September.
