Default Been offered another job but......

Been in my current job for 13 years now and it's been okay for most of the time, BUT so far, this year has been getting me down.
I do 4 x 12 hour nightshifts and there's o/t on the weekends if we want it.

Where i'm working, lots of things they're doing lately (lowering moral within the shop floor staff) are grinding me down to my lowest ebb, because it's just petty things, things that i let go over my head most of the time.

Basically, i've been offered another job doing what i do now (coded pipe welder) for a large nationwide building company, for slightly more money (extra £1.40 p/h on the basic day rate i'm paid at the moment). I know a few lads who work there, who've worked for the company i work for and have said that the company look after the guys and don't give them any hassel !

The problem is those 13 years of service !
Thats a nice few £k's if at anytime the 'R' word is mentioned and it's difficult for me to ignore.

My wife isn't keen on me walking away from that amount of service either.

Do i just ignore all the drivel where i work and just stick with it or do i bite the bullet, walk away and work for the other company ?

Can't offer you much advice as I'm in the same boat, hate my job but being on twice as much as what most jobs are advertised at is hard to see that I could be taking home £100+ less a week and I can't quite get my head round that part.

But good luck whatever you decide

TBH mate no matter how bad it gets it has to be worth sticking with it. The new jobmay offer more money, but is it going to be more secure, are you going to face losing the job & no "package" within? Its not nice out there job wise for anyone, i would also mention, that with your years of service, they would possibly have you low on the list for "R", as they'd payout to those who have less service??

I'm not that bothered about the extra hourly rate (although it's always nice to have more money), it's just when i come home from work fed up, it gets everyone else fed up !

God, i wish i knew the next lotto rollover numbers !

That doesn't make any difference where i work, its a multi national company who's turn over is £ thousands of millions. If they want you out, then your out regardless of service.

We all wish on them numbers..
Its a tough call, do what i do,, use the works premesis as a barrier,, what happens at work, stays at work, but when at work, what happens outside of work, stay out side too.
I say stick it out, ride with it..

Rise above the Childish Cr@p and just get on with what you do. In this day and age the R word can creep in anywhere you work. I used to manufacture Sub-sea Umblical's for the oil feilds (Engineering) In my last job but because of the rise in oil prices loads of contracts were put on hold. So 87 were to be made redundant. I took mine as I had another job to go to. A nice little sweetener.
For 13 years you should get a nice little lump to Tide you over if the worse happens, god forbid. Its not always easy fitting into a new post There's Usually someone who tries to hoy the spoke in for you when ya new.
IMO stick with the devil you know + The little security you have. Then again a change can be as good as a rest. Follow your head not ya heart.

Life is too short, how much working life do you have left, 20-30 years? do you want to spend it where you are if you are unhappy? It's unfair your work affects everyone in a negative way.

Its catch 22 as a boy I worked with stayed to get his R payout and then could not get another job. I say get the magic 8 ball out and ask that.

Good luck with your sole searching!
