A good blow with computer keyboard cleaner has the same affect. Done this on a few now, and all still working.
You can tell if it's the cruise control stick giving the problems or the Brake/Cluth pedal, as if the cruise control turns off by the stick, then it comes off gently (cruise that is), if it's the brake or clutch pedal, then theres a jolt as the cruise turns off.

    thats wrong.

if the cars under acceleration to maintain speed and the cruise control stick goes off, you will get the same "jolt" as the car instantly decelerates.

Mine has turned off about 3 times in the last few months and there was certainly no 'jolt'. It was just like taking your foot off the accelerator. Pressed the button and it re-activated again.

DO NOT JUST PULL THE CC STALK OUT, YOU WILL BREAK THE CLIP THAT HOLDS IT!

Use the paper clip method, I found out the hard way

Can I just say to the OP that this is genius! (Except for the tug which has been brought up) I have just done this and my faulty CC is now fully working. It was not increasing with a press of the speed increase button before now, but this 10 minute job and a quick test drive and all is well!

Thanks for saving me £20 on a stalk I was watching on ebay!!
