Default 2.2 Direct - plastic engine cover, does it actually do anything?

    Hi guys,

Does the plastic engine cover (that goes over the right hand side of the engine on a 2.2 Direct, covering the high pressure fuel pump) do anything useful, or is it just cosmetic?

I ask because my 2004 2.2 Direct, bought from Arnold Clark a couple of days ago, is missing the whole cover! It had a new fuel pump fitted last week, don't know if they perhaps forgot to refit the over, or if it has been deliberately removed because of overheading. Doesn't seem like the kind of item that would just get "lost"

(I'm not interested in engine bay bling, so if the cover isn't a functional item, I can forget about it )

    Cheers.

    mmm... interesting.

I didn't buy mine from Arnold Clark but my engine cover was also missing on my 2.2Direct. There must be a market for them somewhere and people are selling them on for mega bucks

I would assume they are for cosmetic reasons, possibly also to reduce engine noise?

Depending on how close it is to the top of the bonnet, (Mine is pretty close it,s a 2.2DTI siggy) I can only assume it reduces any heat transfer from ya engine to ya bonnet. if ya bonnet gets hot all the time it might effect ya paintwork! I'm not 100% on this.
