    Default clutch expectations on 1.8

    Hi folks

I have bought a second hand Vectra C Design 2006 of a dealer about 3 months ago.
For the past 3 months, I put 3k miles on it. Meanwhile had to have power steering pump replaced, and aircon re gassed (it wasn't doing its job when it was rather hot outside).
But another thing starts to fail, the clutch. And now, I am wondering - is this some sort of Vectra thing, that clutch fails after 35k miles ? I am pretty sure, at least on other makes, that expecting clutch to last at least 50k is not something unreasonable.

The reason I am asking is, because dealer I bought it from, despite 12 month warranty, refuses to replace the clutch on basis that it is the 'wear and tear' thing. Obviously, a blunt lie, since they - as Vauxhall dealer - vouched for the car, by selling it to me with 'quality' promises.

Any comments on that please ?

(this is my first post, so please don't bash me).

If its a second hand motor from a vauxhall dealer shouldn't it be covered under network q? I'd play your face with them big time on that one matey as I'm fairly sure that the clutch IS covered on net q warranty. Double check your warranty paper work as there is absolutely no way the clutch should be goosed at that mileage, my diesel clutch was still ok at 99k only changed it coz i changed the dmf.

Would have thought that a clutch would last longer than that. What makes you think the clutch is worn out?

I have a 2.2dti on its original clutch on 91k and i tow a caravan with it, and its still fine.

mine was a net q car and yes it is covered, so if your car is net q then it will be replaced. Wilnicote Motors dragged their feet even net q got involved with it. but all garages cant be like them!

Hi mate I've got a 06 plate 1.8 sri. My clutch started playing up at 20k. No joy with vx they will only replace them up to 17k foc. unless the clutch only judders when its cold, like first thing in the morning. Quite a common problem with the 06 plate 1.8s I'm lucky local garage replaced it for £325

What's the problem with your clutch? Is it juddering when the engine/gearbox is cold?

If it is this, then it's a common fault which could have been sorted, i understand, when the car was much younger. Sounds like either it didn't materialise that early, or a previous owner didn't get it sorted.

I didn't get my car from a VX dealer & my juddering clutch only materialised after i had it a few months. Once its all warm it doesn't judder.

The warranty on most second hand cars covers things that break NOT things that ware out, but if you bought the car from a Vauxhall dealer then I would be having WORDS
