    Default 1.9cdti EGR cleaning

I know this has been covered a dozen of times already but I wanted to ask again just to make sure. My car has about 100k km now (approx 60k miles) and I don't know if EGR needs cleaning?

There is no black smoke coming out of the exhaust and I don't think that it pulls worse than before but should I do it as a precaution?

Some say that it is better not to mess with it while it is working fine, do you think I should give it a clean or leave it as it is and wait till it needs changing (hopefully never but it is an opel )

So, what are everyone's thoughts - to clean it or to leave it as it is?
Is it a complicated job to do, could I do some serious damage to the engine?

Its pretty easy to do but i thought the same as you (as mine was running fine) ill do it as a perecaution and was a bit heavy handed tapping out the solinoid pin and cracked the housing braking it all together ended up costing me £100 for a new one soo my advise if its working fine leave it alone

very easy to do, follow the guide in the how 2. did mine and car performance improved. get 2 new gaskets to replace original ones or get the new fiat restricted one as this helps to stop sooting up.

easy job, do the full strip down + clean as in the 'how 2' section, You will need a good straight punch! and probably a 'lump' hammer to shift the solenoid inners, hold the punch straight and place a socket under the egr allowing the inners to come out whilst also supporting the solenoid body, short swift blows should shift the inners, use wd 40,elec conntact spray or light oil NOT grease to lubricate as it may impaire the movement of the solenoid. carb cleaner is best for the main egr body.

If I was you, I would leave it.

You say your car still runs fine, no black smoke, so why bother..? Don't fix anything if its not broke.

As already said, its an easy job to do, so enjoy your car, and when/if it needs doing then do it .

I'd thought about doing mine too, but was worried I'd make things worse.

So I went for some Wynns EGR3 spray. I know some aren't keen on these things, but its alot easier, and I know it made a difference on my CDTi.

I took mine of to give it a spring clean but made it worse lol. Was working fine before hand. Just car was a little sluggish under 2k. Cleaned it as per the how to inc drilling the hole and removing the solenoid but get the valve open warning light now. Recleaned it about 6 times since but always get the warning within 2 mins of resetting the code.

Not sure how it can be like this as now is totally free in terms of movement and clean as a whistle. I cant get it to stick anywhere but some how the car can so going to get a new one now.
