Default Parking fine - help required

A couple of weeks ago me and the mrs went to do our weekly shop. Though on this occasion we went to a different store that we dont often use. We pulled into the car park it took about 10 mins to find a space as car park is not that big and it was really busy. Just as i had found a space and reversed into a a lady pulled into the space next to meet and hit my car! After about 20 mins of swapping details and checking both cars over we went on to do our shopping. Once the shopping was done we left and came home. Well this week i get a letter from the car park company saying that i'd been half an hour over the max time you can spend in the car park (2 hrs) if it hadn't been for the woman hitting my car we would have been done in the time your allowed. I have not noticed any signs before stating max stay times. But where do you think i stand? its not a pay and display but the say they have photographic evidence of me entering and leaving i wouldn't mind but we spent over £100 in the store too !

Logical thing to do is to telephone the superstore and calmly explain what had happened.

Usually they (the shop owners) are willing to let you off.

Also, it would give you the opportunity to ask the shop owners whether this is a legitimate letter. Strange how they have your details, as I thought only official traffic wardens, local authority parking enforcers and the police had access to this information.

Shops and private companies should NOT be privvy to this info.

You can apply to the DVLA for registered owner info.

It's not really a parking fine as it's not on the public highway. It's a civil matter and from what I've read theses companies rely on the bully tactic to extract the cash.

But surely there would have to be a good reason to get info from the dvla, rather than just overstayed by 30 minutes,

Otherwise anyone could get vehicle owner's details etc.

and besides, if it was so busy...who would be watching a video that closely!!?

Hmmm sorry, but this sounds very fishy to me.

If they don'y play ball, name and shame the shop on line, and in your local rag...
    Shops don't like bad publicity!!

where i used to work they had a similar system that would take a pic of your car going into the car park and when you left the car park it would take another pic if the time between these 2 pics was greater than the time allowed it would auto contact dvla for details and send you a ticket.

never ignore them, they will pursue it, best to write and explain, also contact the shop (show your receipt) and ask if they will intervene.
