Default installing a aux in jack....

Having read the how2 on this, Ive decided that its worth a go but Ive got a dilemma as to where to have the jack? The main reason this is an issue is in my previous car te head unit had a front mounted aux and with an ipod connected, the wires got in the way of gear changes etc...

My first thought was to mount it into the glove box but that then causes issues with reaching it if for some reason I needed to whilst driving!?!? So now I'm left with 2 options:

Ive noticed that with some slight modifcation the ash tray could become an iphone/ipod holder and have the jack mounted in the sport button blank but possibly a bit crude looking.... Ive also noticed that the cup holder (with some gentle modification) would be an ideal and discreet location for a jack and iphone/ipod holder.

How hard would it be to run the required wires from the back of the head unit to the cup holder? would there be a huge amount of dismantling involved?

Cup holder is the way to go. Not too difficult to get wires from the cup holder to the headunit.
There was a post a few days ago about a similar thing and the cupholder was where they had put the socket.

Or just buy the Aux in cubby from VX, it just replaces the one that's already there but has a built in Aux in socket.

Only if you have a late cd70 (from approx mid 2007), it should already have the aux in socket in the cubby as shown above.

Anyone got a colour pic of that vx aux socket above.

I want one but that design looks a bit 'heath robinson' to me.

It IS heath robinson!! lol That's an image from the owner's manual by the looks of it.

    Of the full can radio's

I believe this is the state of play

CD30 - Has aux in capability in theory...but needs programming to enable
    (Totally unsure in practice).

CDC40 - Has aux-in capability inplace of DAB unit...although there is a simple rewire job that can be done, where you can switch between DAB and Aux-In.

CD70 - Has aux-in capability ONLY if it is a Late 2007 onward radio, NOT made by VDO Siemens
Prior to this date VDO Siemens CD70's need to be modified (soldering and SMD's required) to enable this function.

I'm sure one of our Romanian / Dutch members will correct me on the particular details.
They can understand the german forum pages better than me, which are very informative!!
