i would get the older DTI if i were you. The CDTI has DMF problems which is expensive and also has the dreaded DPF which are ok if you do long journeys but they really dont like short journeys.
The 150 likes eating the flywheel due to the high torque.
If you really have to get a diesel get the 2.2 DTI.

the 1.9 cdti knockers have started lol
listen ive had my cdti for a year and a half and the only problem ive had with it is the 3rd injector lead needing replacing and a few other minor bits but the cdti is the most common engine in the vectra range and yes it does have its problems and faults like almost every other car thats built but its a good engine when its running ok and its very powerfull and not that bad on diesel either
VXR IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR THRILLS !

Hi mark, welcome to the forum.

I think there are pros and cons with both the 1.9cdti and the 2.2dti. I have a 2.2dti SRi and I like the 5 speed gears as apposed to the 6 speed in the 1.9. It revs more like a petrol car. However I have heard the 1.9cdti is more refined. Either way there is alot of support for both engines on this site should you ever have an issue. What is the age and mileage for the car? How much is it up for sale?

    Happy buying :-)

I think one of the main reasons you hear about lots of issues with the cdti is simply because there are so many!!
And for every problem you here about there is probrably hundreds more with trouble free ownership!

if your worried why not try a 120 rather than 150 as we rarely have posts about 120's going wrong?? (or am i just missing them all)

I have the 120 m8, it got 105,000 on the clock and had no major problems with it......It did lack a bit umph so i put a DTUK eco 3 green tuning box on it , air box mod with K&N filter then put twin stainless set up on it....and that makes a hell of a differance.......and it still goin strong.....

I'd go for a 1.9 CDTi 120 mine has just ticked over the 100k mark with only the DMF/clutch being replaced (apart from servicing, timing belt kit) the 120's dont seem to suffer half as many problems ie inlet manifold, swirl bars etc and with a few mods a 120 will be quicker than a standard 150 (air box mod, panel filter, de cat exhaust, remap) you should see 165bhp.

I bought an 08 150 in January, was worried about all the comments on here, so far been fine. I do mainly start/stop with a long motorway trip once a month. Since told it should be fine if services kept up.
