    Cool Tow bar lighting coding

    hi all,
first post in quite a while but hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have just fitted a new towbar with geniun vx single electrics wiring kit. When i plug trailer board in only the taillights work and when indicators are activated they flash as if bulbs are out. I know the lighting system is controled via CAN so is there a coding required in the body control unit to inform the vehicle that there is a bar fitted? I have been told by VX service center that this may be the case but they were unsure. also they quoted me 35 quid +vat to carry out such a task. to me this seems rather steep for a job i could do myself in a matter of seconds given access to a tech 2!! Does anyone out there have or know someone with access to a tech 2 in the edinburgh area? I aint tight but really dont think that the cost of coding should be nearly as much as the wiring kit itself!!
    thanks in advance for help

Tech 2 is a sophisticated piece of kit mate, 35 quid to activate isn't really that expensive. I was 50 odd to get my parking sensors activated

The dealers have you by the dangleys on these occasions. I worked for vx a number of years ago for a short period and the tech 2 is a simple peice of kit to use in comparison to some dealer set ups iv encountered. might just have to bight the bullet and get it done. i was lying when i said i wasnt tight, just dont want to fork out more cash on the bar if i dont have to!! thanks john for your post.

Hi..I had a similar problem with my electrics..I phoned our local auto electrics place and the guy was very helpful
He told me to to a hard reset for the towbar electrics

1...Take out the in-line fuse for the towbar electrics...Turn the car headlights on then off again
2...Put fuse back in then turn lights on then off again
3...Plug trailer in to the towbar electrics then turn lights on then off again..

I did this thinking yeahh rite. But it did the trick..HTH
