confused starter solenoid or starter cdti 150 help!!

car was slow to turn over couple of times last week so replaced battery, and all fine. today coming home from work, turned key and nothing, just single click from engine bay. eventually tapped solenoid on starter and car started as though nothing had happened! which means old battery was probably fine.

how easy is it to change the starter?

can solenoid be bought and changed separately

mine is an auto so I can't rock it gear to free it. have to tap it to free it.

In a word awkward, its easy enough to change just a pig to get at (I usually lie on the rocker cover). I'd just change the complete unit as there will more than likely be a surcharge on it anyway and I'd go for a genuine/oem part rather than a cheap mickey mouse one.
