Default How does a 3.2 GSis low down acceleration compare to a mapped 1.9cdti

    Hi guys,

Been toying with this for a while now. But now i only live 10miles from the office i got the itch for a V6 again.. its in my blood!

Now the remapped 1.9 cdti i have is awesome, but it owes me £8000 and i know i could get an awesome GSI for around £4000 with probably more kit, only pre-facelift and free up £4000 more!

I know econmomy will be less, but how does acceleration low down compare (im not bothered high end) Reason i ask this is that my diesel feels fast than my Vectra B V6s.... the ni-on 300lb torque from diesel is very satisifying!

Without being too byass.. how would the 3.2 V6 compare?

    Cheers guys!

    Mike

I drove a 3.2 when looking for a replacement for my 3.0 'B' and it wasn't a patch on it. I also used to do quite well against mapped 1.9's in the 3.0.

I decided to go for the 2.2 DTi I have now as I just wasn't that impressed with the GSi.

I like yourself was really keen on getting a v6 but after driving one although it wasnt slow off course it didnt really set my pants on fire, They are very high geared and to be honest it will never have the low down grunt your diesel is packing. Take one for a test drive as it made my mind up for me.

as above in a 1/4 mile drag race the 1.9 would leave the GSi standing in a cloud of smoke.

in a mile drag race the GSi would leave the smoker go fill up and cross the line and still have time for coffee.

hmm, that kinda answers my question, the V6 would not do for me anymore... hmm, back to drawing board! Still fancy down pricing to summit cheaper..

I dont really want to! I love it, the spec is awesome, its pretty much a diesel VXR in my opinion (granted not as quick but quick enough!) But ive been thinking for a while now... i could free up £4K and still have £4k to buy a decent car as £4k buys alot nowadays!

Just cant help thinking, would a older ver with similar or same performance but costing far less be any different on my live? versus the freed up funds?

Like i say... unsure... tempted to wack it on pistonheads and see what reaction to my asking price is as really im in a good position, i dont really need to sell it so dont have to take offers, just fancy testing my options!

    You sure?

    0-60:
    1.9 CDTi 16V 8.8 s
    3.2 V6 GSi 5d 7.0 s

Even with a mapped CDTi, the smoker is going to have a relatively narrow power band, so while Mr. Diesel is changing gear three or four times to get to 60mph, Mr. Planet Killer will still be in second gear when crossing the line.

Now, if both cars were limited to 4k rpm, then yeah, the CDTi would win hands down.
