    Default Car Pass Card

When I bought my car (at one year old from local main dealer) I was promised a car pass card.
I recieved a A4 sheet with all the codes on with a note saying that they had run out of cards and would post one out as soon as they had them back in stock.

Now, roll forwards 4 years and one house move, guess who can't find this sheet of paper and now needs the codes....?? Anyone?

Well, the local dealer changed hands about 6 months after I got my car (probably why I never received the card)

I went down today to see if they could help me out, ie had a copy of the codes / sheet on file. No was the answer but here's the number for the old owner. Hartwells are still running but not locally. Rang them and they basically understood my situation - ie not getting an item that was specifically included in the terms of sale all that time ago.

They said that they would have to pay the fee to VX, but had no mechanism to do it because all their franchises operate financially independantly. However, they did say they would look into it.

    What are my chances.....?

So, basically I will probably have to pay the £30 for the answers from my local dealer.

Is there an alternative way or cost, cos I thought that £30 was steep for the actual amount of work to be done

You could argue the case that the original dealership did not supply the pass card, and keep hoping someone will eventually send it out
Contact VX and see if they can help matters along quicker

If not, and especially if you need the passcard urgently, then paying £30 seems the only option

You will also be required to complete a vehicle ownership form, take proof that you are the registered keeper, and proof of idenity

Ironically, I asked for a service book and got sent a passcard instead!

the initial selling dealer SHOULD have these details on file as these should have been recorded as part of the pre delivery inspection and be able to supply them to you - but if they have gone the way of most smaller independants then you have to hope that Hartwells come up trumps for you and honour the deal they have agreed to

I don't know who supplied the car originally, and my 'pack' is in the back of my garage. Might be able to have a look tomorrow night.... Hopefully though Hartwells will do the very decent thing..........

Otherwise, it's £30 less for the kids prezzies this Christmas.

Looks something like this. It has all the info required for you to order a key and have it programmed to your car, stereo code, etc.

When you buy a car there should be some specific items with the car :
    2 keys
1 alloy wheel lock (if the car has alloy wheels)
    1 passcard

The passcard has all the key numbers and codes printed on it

If all these items are not present, then if it is a dealership or garage, ask them to endorse the sales contract that the originals or replacements must be supplied within 28 days
The deakership that supplied my car couldn't find the alloy wheel lock, so they replaced that a week later
On my Vectra B the second key couldn't be found, so the entire locking mechanism was replaced at their cost
