    Default Vectra C 2.0dti swapped for 2001 318i BMW

Hello all a month ago I took a notion I wanted a bmw. I Swapped my Veccy 03 dti for a 2002 BMW 318i. I will say I wish I didnt bother my arse. The vectra is a far better car hands down. I know the bmw has every possible extra you could need but for driving and mpg the vectra wins hands down. So after alot of ear ache from the bride I went and done a deal for a 2003 2.2 DTI elegance. BMW is a hyped up piece of crap I hate it. Cant wait to get my vectra at the weekend. Anything to look out for it has high miles but im not concerned i love the vectra c and there is really nice smooth power cheers for looking any replies regarding to problems appriciated

"BMW is a hyped up piece of crap I hate it."

That's probably a bit harsh (not that I've owned one). You went from a larger engined diesel to a 1.8 petrol, it's going to seem gutless. A 2.0 BMW 6 cylinder petrol would have been a fairer comparison or even better, a 330D.

Good luck with your new car.

cheers. the 318i has a 2 litre flat 4 engine. it is puttin out 143bhp and 201NM of torque. but it loves petrol. wasnt happy with it the day i got it i had a bad gut feeling about the car. it is really lumpy on idle when its done over 30 miles. it traffic the revs fluctuate. dont get me wrong the car can shift when you want it to. but for out and out driving mpg and value for money and this is my opinion the vectra wins hands down. if someone offered me a 150 cdti vectra or 150 320d its the vectra for me. i did put a wishbone in the car cost 120 snoop

no mate, bmw have nenver made a model number to the size of the engine lol.
    the 318 is a 2.0, the 320 is like a 2.2, 323 is a 2.5 etc etc. wierd i know!

    i really fancy a 330cd!

they are quick 197 bhp but like alot of the BMW "d" engines they have a habbit of chewiing up the turbos and spitting them out. my uncle had 2 320d bimers a 130 and later 150bhp and both had turbos replaced. Another thng the people on the bmw forum arent as pleasent as on the veccy forum. if you have a anything smaller than a 325 they dont really have time for you. alot of people on this forum will help or have suggestions that may help. dream car at minute would be tdi S5 they are a nice bus

    A 2002 BMW 318I has a 140bhp 1.9 4 cylinder engine. The very same engine they used on the later (post 96) E36 318IS and the Z3.
In 2003 BMW replaced the old but reliable 1.9 unit with a detuned 140 bhp 2.0 6 cylinder in the 3 series.
I owned a 2003 318ci convertible and it was a far supperior driving machine than my 2003 Vectra SRI and if it was not for the birth of my son i would still have it.
Im not knocking the Vectra as it is a very capable car and does exactly what i want it to do with little fuss but it is a miss match to be brutally honest. Practicality and cheap to run and insure = Vectra, Drivability and engineering = BMW.
The old 1.9 4 cylinder unit used in the E36 and the early E46 BMW's was not too shabby either to be honest.
I had a 1996 318IS and that was a very good car and still is to this very day. Some manufacturers are still playing catch up.
Im not bashing the Vectra as i like mine but just giving an honest unbiased opinion.
It sounds like you got a bit of a pup to be honest.

sorry i was wrong yes it has a 1.9 engine. the same engine in some 316i. the bmw is an ok car to drive but to be honest the mpg is killing me. 26.6 mpg every time i get into the car i just watch the petrol needle drop. my wife loves both cars but we have a baby coming in june and i just like the bigger but i feel for every day driving i prefer the vectra. in my 318 i have to go from 5th to third to over take from 50mph in the vectra 5th gear boot down and away. being honest i think i did get a melon. suppose we all get them at some stage.

I bet it was the coil on the BMW causing the misfire and the rough running- we get it all the time on our lease cars at work
