Default Water pump? Anyone had similar issues

My squealing noise which I thought was the alternator is still ever present but the wife had the car out today and she paniced because it beeped and a 'funny looking symbol' showed up on the display, possibly an 'engine'?!

Anyway, this was this morning so told her to just leave it and I would go have a look after work.

The 'engine' symbol was the radiator symbol and it was short a litre of water but is hard to see if it is dripping or leaking due to the splash tray! Anyway, my point is, no oily residue in radiator resevoir, no mayo in oil and no battery light and charging at 14 + v

Anyone else had a water pump go? Not wanting to be driving the car until it is either fixed or at least diagnosed.

MY Squealing was the belt, a bit of candle fixed this, I changed the water pump at 60,000 when I did the cam belt, it was worn out.

Rob as I've said before if you're in any doubt with these water pumps, change it.

Well, car is at my Dad's house, going to get it towed through to the garage. Was just through having a closer look, didn't take the engine mount off but there was water on the drive shaft and along the bottom of the engine.

Taking no chances, timing belt kit and water pump ASAP.

Water pump went at 46000 mile and had to replace the belts, lucky it was under warranty, but the belts weren't, 167 for the belts.

Well, got a pump for £22, pattern but local vx didn't have any until Friday and belt kit for £96 all in. Car has ben RAC'd to the garage and will hopefully get it back before the weekend.

Alternator arrived today too so at least I have a spare if (when??!) it goes.

Timing belt and water pump changed and its still a bit squeaky when cold but putting that down to the alternator belt having got wet, will do that next.

Old water pump was ready for shattering!
