    Default Noise ...

hi , on my 1.8 vec there has been a noise from front left side on decceleration , soon accelerate it goes !
I have changed the driveshaft so its not CV related , topped up box oil but still noise is there .
it sounds like its from the g/box but all gears are smooth to select !
noise is still there when clutch is depressed and coasting too .
what else am I looking at here guys ??
    cheers .

Have you checked the tyre pressures and the condition of the tyre, maybe something as simple as that, other wise have you tried coasting in neutral to see if the noise is still there?

if you're 100% its not a wheel bearing and its not the tyre or cv joint then all roads point to diff/gearbox i'm afraid, the 1.8's do suffer with gearboxes for some reason, I assume its an f18 box in it? if so there's plenty in the breakers yards, you'll be spoilt for choice lol

surely its easier than a g/box ? should i just leave it till it gets much worse ? or will this be detrimental to the engine etc ?

The diff will probably self destruct and could smash the driveshafts to bits at the cv joints as for engine damage, who knows?

I am a mechanic cheeky! Depending what you want to spend there's loads of choice, you could take the chance on one from a scrappy for about 100 - 150 quid, buy one from the stealers probably 1000 quid plus or recon the one you've got for about 5-600 quid. then all you gotta account for is how much someone's gonna charge you to remove/refit the box or if you're gonna have a bash at it yourself, then all your gonna need is some gear oil and patience.
