    Default I Dont believe it.

Changed the discs and pads on wifes signum 1.9cdti 120 yesturday.
Now I've moaned sice wee got it 2 yrs ago that the brakes werent up to much and in the last 3 months they got worse. Got everything online from Eurocarparts.co.uk. No problems and cheap. Pigid discs front and rear, EBC green stuff pads front and Bosch rears. £186.25.
All discs were corroded, had wear on them so they lipped 4mm on the edges and pads were 60% worn front and 30% rear, in the 2yrs weve had the car have never changed anything.
But the thing i couldnt believe is SINGLE PISTON CALIPERS all round. Now my cars tend to be a more performance cars, scoobs, s2000 and now Fabia VRS and a NSX, these have better brakes and more pistons, but many have said to me in the past on here completly different cars, more performance etc.
But my scoob weighted 1100kg, s2000 1200kg, vrs 1300kg, nsx 1350kg. Her pug 206 1200kg, these all had better brakes. The vauxhall signum is 1625kg, tows a caravan weighing 1440kg, does tip runs and diy shops with plaster tiles etc, carries 4 people (50stone combined) and bags. AND STILL ONLY HAS SINGLE PISTION CALIPERS all round, not even big pistons either.

By the wear of the pads, i.e. next to nothing in 2 yrs 23000 miles, no wonder the thing takes some stopping. The brakes are better now, no spongy pedal, sharper, feels more secure, but still takes some stopping.

    SINGLE PISTON CALIPERS!!!!

88 views and no comments. Come on. You'd think a car designed to sit on a motorway, would be able to stop for that speed.

That's why most people have upgraded to the V6 314mm brakes or some of us to the 345mm VXR brakes. All still single pot calipers, but definintely plant your face on the windscreen...

I think my 302mm's are cracking no problems at all stopping my V6. They will perform properly now that you have renewed them.

26k on the clock and I've just checked my rear disc and pads due to metal on metal on the inner rear pads and had killed the disc's.

The dealer said the eat the inner pads due to the single piston setup
