Default Oh Man, what have I done??? Urgent help required!

    Hey guys.

So, my 2002 Vectra C was losing power in first gear when taking off from junctions, traffic lights, etc. After reading a few threads here, I've changed the EGR valve, slight improve, but still stuttering a bit.

just now, I've changed spark plugs, air filter, cleaned the throttle body using a toothbrush and carb cleaner and also sprayed carb cleaner down the inlet manifold and brushed all the gunk off.

The problem is, now, when i start the car, not only the 1st gear problem remains, but now, the car idles like s**t.

Clearly, I've done something wrong. So i would like the help of you guys to try and sort this problem out, before I have to take to a Vx dealer, who will probably tell me that i f****d the engine up and now will need a new one.

    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP!!!!

There's maybe a bit of gunk lodged somewhere, something you missed. Try taking it for a wee blast?

Sounds like you may have knocked crap into the inlet manifold when cleaning, as Rob said take it for a hard run to try and clear it out a bit.

And needing a new engine may be a bit extreme

My 1.8 engine has a bar with the connectors to the spark plugs on it and this bar connects to a little plug thing, no standard spark plug leads, so not sure how to check if the leads (if any) are ok.

Is there a way to clean the inlet manifold without having to remove it?

Man, I'm panicking, I thought I was doing a good work, BUT, somehow I've messed it up...

Err... found out the correct name for the "bar" is Ignition Module. I'm going back out again to try and sort the problem out... Wish me luck...

Doubt you have done alot of damage, but I would suggest making sure you have tightened up all bolts/screws you removed from the engine and also when you changed the spark plugs - check you havent accidently crosed the threads for these.

PS - try not to spray carb cleaner into the manifold either

Yea, if its anything like the 2.2 you will have dislodged a load of carp. As said take it out for a good Italian tune and I think you might sort it. My moneys on all the oil and carbon in the manifold being dislodged.
