Default Are common manners a thing of the past?

I sound like an old granny but where are the manners these days?

to give you an example.....I recently joined another forum to get info on my other car etc and I thought it only fair to join up fully for the small donation they were asking. Everyone seems friendly enough etc although judging by the majority of cars owned, its obvious the member base has a younger average age than we do on here.

After I paid my donation, I was asked for address details etc by the guy that also sorts the group buys, discounts etc so along with my details I also gave them a heads up to a couple of our traders who I thought would probably help them out with some club discount etc and sent the pm off.

Not a word back from him.

A few days had passed and I read on the forum that they now have a new club discount from clean and shiny and display the same banner we do for them in our section. Still no word from the guy

So as I hadnít received my member joining pack I pm'd him asking if it had been sent etc and also a little nudge about the discounts asking if he got sorted ok and how good a trader C&S are. All I got back was that he was waiting for more envelopes and im on the list.

Now, I aint too bothered about the member pack but I kinda feel a little put out that I offered some help and got no acknowledgement. Even if he didnít think it was any good a simple 'thanks anyway mate' etc would have gone a long way. But then to actually contact the trader, get the discount, advertise it and then ignore my prompt this morning is just taking the mickey a little. All in my own opinion of course.

Maybe im getting old, maybe its fatherhood making me see things differently these days, but I think common manners are dying.

Definately, manners are sooo last year !!

I blame bl00dy texting for it, it really irritates me the amount of people who will pull out their phone mid conversation and read a text message while you are talking to them ...

And, when you used to go to Asda / Tesco etc the person on the till would always say hello, and then ask you a question / comment on something you had bought, it was in their customer care training, now they just usher you through like cattle ...

It`s the ignorant new generation ....On the roads as well, how many people let you out now, bog all thats how many. I had someone toot their horn at me yesterday on a roundabout, they couldn`t have hit me even if they had tried

rant over, feel better now it`s off me chest, cheers Andy *lol*

it's a sad fact but i think you are right Andy, alot of people just don't give a monkeys anymore, driving is a classic example where people just don't say thank you anymore.

Lost count of the number of times I've let people pull out etc. and not a wave or acknowledgment. Even in business matters. I'll sometimes send photos off to a client and I hear nothing back from them. I then start wondering if they don't like them!!! So then I just check that they did receive them. They loved them - just never bothered to pick up the phone or knock off a quick e-mail!

But you're right Andy - manners do seem to becoming a thing of the past. Either that or we're all just turning into grumpy old men!!!

Yeah .... Driving is a good example ... Using indicators tend to be too difficult for many people nowaday!!

your right andy good manners are hard to find these days but then its a bit like respect. You dont have to look far to see a lack of that. You just have to look at this forum. certain banned members who showed no respect for their 'friends' forum and abused it silly then becone total numpties and take the p1ss by joining again and again under different usernames and start again. No respect for anyone and as for manners dont get me started. Just have to work in customer service to see lack of those!

Guess its the way of the world these days you cant really trust anyone anymore although there are good companies and folk out there like dave at irmscher bits, always pleasant great service even a freebie pen wee touches.
