Default Ebay postage rant - join in with your own

I was having a quick look on ebay for some cheap blinds for our 2 stairs windows. Anyway, came across this listing and thought it was not a bad price, they will cut to size &c.

£4.95 postage, except for IV3-IV40 (I am IV19). £16.95. WTF. I am not remote, royal mail delivers up here just like everywhere else, they even give us guaranteed next day before 12 noon.

What really boils my wee wee on this one is, IV1 & IV2 are normal price. For anyone who does not know, IV's 1, 2 & 3 are ALL Inverness city postcodes, not 'out in the sticks' or on the western isles or buried 100 miles underground, so why is IV3 more expensive?!

There's a thing called the 'Scottish Network' which a coallation (sp) of a few different companies who guarantee overnight deliveries and are not expensive. I can send an engine and gearbox from my house (north of Inverness) to Ayr and it be there the next day!!

Sorry went off topic there, my point is we have almost every major courier network in Inverness so why would it cost more?!?!

Same with online tyres, you guys talk about free postage, I would need to add £9.95 PER TYRE!

    God it makes me mad.

I think eBay has some real rip offs on postage. A few sellers seem to offer the items really cheap, then stick 3 times+ the normal P&P on, claiming it's for their time and materials.
I always weigh anything I list, check the online Royal Mail price quote and give a sensible figure. Some of the P&P prices I've seen are mad, almost cheaper to drive and fetch item.

You think you got problems, I tried to sell something on ebay last week and it got bought by a foney buyer who sent me emails pretending to be Paypal saying payment was being held until a despatch number was sent. Gave them the finger and put it back up, only to have the same thing happen again!?! Had enough of ebay to last me a life time.

to be fair, sellers are entitled to charge what p&p they like - it's always made clear in the listing what the postage will be. Don't like it, look elsewhere.
Maybe if ebay weren't so extortionate with their fees, sellers wouldn't look for ways to try to offset the expenses.

I listed a few things recently and postage was capped!

I had a bulk lot of PS1 games and was only allowed to charge £2 postage!

Very true about looking elsewhere but this is the last straw for me, we are on the mainland, I have a PO within 1/2 mile of my house and countless couriers locally!

I see, wondered how ebay would deal with that - not used it for a long time.
The high postage some sellers were using was a way of cutting down on ebay's % of the sale, and I don't blame the seller for that.

Always looking for ways to get extra money out of people that organisation.

I won a camera recently on ebay, the postage was listed as £25.00
or collect. Having won the camera at a keen price,I contated the seller and
asked to collect. Strange now he is "to busy" to make time for camera to be collected.

I think that the guy was relying on his inflated postage to top up the sale price.

Despite negative feed back and contacting ebay as a dispute, the seller will
not complete the sale. Ebay are unable or unwilling to assist.

Ask to send him a cheque or PO and pop over to collect it.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

After receiving texts messages from the guy that were like
the ramblings of a mad man, I gave up.
The bloke did concede that I could not collect the camera until
he had told his wife that it was sold. I lost interest a bought
a camera elsewhere, ebay resolution, no help at all.
