    Default brake calipers

my n/s rear caliper was seized but the mechanic managed to free it off.he advised me to source another caliper as the crap would get in again due to the rubber seal being shot.my question is,is another caliper necessary as im sure i read somewhere you can buy a seal kit ????

I've just replaced this cover on one of my rear calipers after finding it split while changing the pads a couple of weeks back. The piston etc was fine so it hadn't been like it long - it's even conceivable I could have caused it while winding the piston back with long nosed pliers as the tool adapter I bought didn't fit, even though it said it was for the Vectra (maybe the older 'B' but it didn't specify that).

One point of note though, the piston end of the seal fits into a groove round the piston circumference but there is no recess in the circumference face round the caliper body for that end to fit into. I could only therefore assume some sort of adhesive/sealant is used to stick it to the smooth seal face surface on the caliper body.

In the absence of knowing exactly what adhesive/sealant to use, I used "superglue" but I don't know whether that is correct or not. Any advice please?

I'll be checking the seal again in a couple of weeks time to make sure it has remained in place sealed to the caliper body seal face.
