Flywheel - what breaks?

I've read a lot about the flywheel causing the dreaded rattle and I think mine has started to do it. However, what actually breaks on the flywheel?

The reason I ask is that I have a warranty on my car and I've been to a Vauxhall dealer and they have told me they think it is the flywheel. However, the warranty company want VX to strip everything down and send them photos of "sudden mechanical failure" before they will pay out.

So, will we see something actually "broken" (and if so, what) or does it just wear out?

the bank breaks lol!! and the wallet cringes too

You will see movement between the 2 plates if the spring has play in it.. They judge it as being fubar by the amount of movement in it i believe...

They will look for blue scorch marks on it as it will show them if its been abused and gotten to too high a temperature, (ie by ragging it and driving hard)
