I have asked a few questions regarding a mates CDTi 150.... his car has the slightest of misfires (noticeable on idle) and a slight low end power issue. When we cleaned the EGR it made no difference so he bought a new one, this made the car run perfect..... for about 2 weeks, then it slowly went back to how it was. We tried allsorts, injector cleaner, recleaned the inlet opening, Fiat Gaskets (this made it slightly better) and thought it must be the EGR again so we sent the new one back and a replacement was sent out - this went on and ran perfect again, and has done for the last 3 weeks.... but now its starting to go back to how it was (slight misfire and low power issue) its driving him round the bend. His car has the injector wiring mod, has new inlet manifold fitted in the last 12 months also, but as when the EGR is replaced it runs perfect, it must be this at fault.
So my question is, what are the options, as far as I can see there are two...
- Blank the EGR
- Buy a remap with the EGR function removed
Obviously one is far cheaper than the other, but are there any other options..?
We'll blank the EGR (on the inlet side) and see if this restores things, and if so for how long, if it cures it or not, it will tell us if it is the EGR at fault or not (I know the emissions light will come on, but he can live with that to see where the problem lies).
One question with the remap option, even with the EGR function removed, I assume that if there were issues with an EGR this would still cause problems, especially if it was stuck part open..??
