    Default EGR Options....

I have asked a few questions regarding a mates CDTi 150.... his car has the slightest of misfires (noticeable on idle) and a slight low end power issue. When we cleaned the EGR it made no difference so he bought a new one, this made the car run perfect..... for about 2 weeks, then it slowly went back to how it was. We tried allsorts, injector cleaner, recleaned the inlet opening, Fiat Gaskets (this made it slightly better) and thought it must be the EGR again so we sent the new one back and a replacement was sent out - this went on and ran perfect again, and has done for the last 3 weeks.... but now its starting to go back to how it was (slight misfire and low power issue) its driving him round the bend. His car has the injector wiring mod, has new inlet manifold fitted in the last 12 months also, but as when the EGR is replaced it runs perfect, it must be this at fault.

So my question is, what are the options, as far as I can see there are two...

    • Blank the EGR
    • Buy a remap with the EGR function removed

Obviously one is far cheaper than the other, but are there any other options..?

We'll blank the EGR (on the inlet side) and see if this restores things, and if so for how long, if it cures it or not, it will tell us if it is the EGR at fault or not (I know the emissions light will come on, but he can live with that to see where the problem lies).

One question with the remap option, even with the EGR function removed, I assume that if there were issues with an EGR this would still cause problems, especially if it was stuck part open..??

hello dan have you tryed unplugging it like i did, its been about three weeks or so since i unplugged mine with out any major problems just a warning light on dash.
one thing i will add is,took the egr valve off couple days back just to have a quick butchers see what was going on . I was suprised to see the the egr manifold side had all but cleaned its self out, this use to be full of gundge and hard to remove now its just a coulpe of flakey bits witch i brushed out .
so one can only conclude it must be getting cleaner inside the manifold as well ...

dan regarding the remap yes the egr valve defo has to be closed before they can map it out.
I know this because i rang a garage the other day in widnes that does EDS remapping ,he told me if i wanted the remap package with the egr valve maped out ,they would have to take the valve off and make sure it was closed before they could start remapping the car..

I made the EGR unusable by cutting the pin that was pushing the valve. you can see it here: http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showpo...5&postcount=75
The EML is ON since then, but the car runs like it never did before. Pulls from 1400-1500 like hell. It's like being another car.

Oh, and no more misfire at idle. I used to have that as well.

I did wonder about that to be honest, was gonna ask if that brought the EML on too and you've answered it

Speaking to him last night, we're going to blank it off, basically to make sure that its defo the EGR thats at fault, and if that proves to be the case, he's gonna get the EDS map that a few people seemed to have got recently - gutted

To spare some 15 min of work, you can always unplug the EGR before starting the engine. You can see how it behaves with EGR closed.

By cutting the pin in the EGR I was hoping I wouldn't get the EML light, which proved to be wrong, but I can live with that.

If there is a slight blockage in the EGR, causing it to not be fully closed, then unplugging won't help, need to totally take the EGR out of the equation.

Yes, but being almost new, I don't think that's the case.
