    Default crunching and knocking noise

    hello chaps,

i have a 03 2.2 sri and since i had the car when going over speed humps any faster than walking pace it makes a crunching noise like the front springs are made of biscuits.

however the problem seems to be getting worse as now when turning the wheel when stationary or at slow speed its knocking as well as when pulling of in a straight line.

i have checked the wheel bearings and wishbone bushes and all seems fine although when i look down through the engine bay at the n\s "big" wishbone bush and get some one to turn the wheel from lock to lock the wish bone does move in the bush from front to rear. and i'm not sure if its enough to cause the problem ?.

just hoping someone out there may have had the same problem or maybe had any ideas what else to look at .

    thanks

Maybe a broken spring, top strut bearings, drop links or ARB bushes, i had the crunching noise when going over speed bumps and it was a broken spring, i changed the strut bearings when the suspension was out and no more noise, goodluck.

Had same. Wife refused to be driven in it, thought the front end and engine would drop out. Drop links changed, crunch less, ARB changed, crunch gone.

    Thanks for all your replies,

had the car jacked up today and had a good poke around, springs were ok and arb bushes are a bit worn but they don't look that bad and also drop links look like new.

so it looks like a case of replacing the cheapest parts first till i get rid of the noise.

have noticed i also have a slight clonk when stationary and turn the wheel from lock to lock, no play in the rack though.

anyone know if i should have movement (forward and rear)in the rear most bush on the front wishbone when the wheels are turned ?

it is defo your front arb's mate without a doubt and your knocking when turning will be your top strut bearings
