V6 CTDI dual mass flywheel issue

Hi All, my clutch has started making a really bad noise when partly disengaged I have searched here and spoke to a Ford mechanic freind and it would seem that my dual mass flywheel is on its way out.

So my question is, what is it likely to cost to have replaced, or if I leave it till it gives up will it cause any other damage?

I left mine for 20k and then sold the car...it's probably been rattling for quite some time too..Haven't noticed any difference to how the car drove.
I got a quote of a GRAND to replace the flywheel.

Try getting some quotes from both local garages and dealerships, to supply and fit a new DMF
Also ask if they have done one on a Y30DT engine before
Also, ask them to prepare a list of parts, the clutch should be replaced at the same time, hence why it can be so expensive

What m8internet said...It would be best to get a quote for the clutch too as the whole thing will have to be taken apart

The bits to do your clutch and flywheel are a ****** fortune that probably isn't helping matters, euro car parts list all the bits online and they come out like this:
DMF- £338.04
2 Part Clutch Kit - £186.28
Concentric Slave Cylinder - £116.31
Thats £640.63 just in bits alone.
Autodata repair times gives 6.2 hours to do the job so depending where you go to have it fixed your probably looking anywhere between £250 (local independant garage) and £600 (stealers) in labour.
Not cheap I know but at least now you know what you're potentially looking at and I'm sure you could probably get the bits cheaper its just euro give them online so I use them as an easy reference.

Forgot to mention if it packs up the only likely damage it will do is kill the starter motor

hi guys - I've been a bit concerned about a similar unpleasant grindy noise when clutch pedal pushed an inch or so in, and noticeable when changing gear in the lower gears and town driving.
I've already been quoted a grand (or so) to replace clutch by dealer as an advice warning during recent visit with dealer suggesting clutch starting to slip. But that was probably because of the smell of burning in the car which caused by getting stuck in deep snow in a highland glen when I had to give it massive revs (and some locals pushing) to get free. Clutch aint slipping at all...but car smelt pretty barbecued for weeks.
But if this is in fact my dual mass flywheel - how can I be sure or if I should just get the whole clutch replaced...I want to be sure before I fork out a grand, and I DON'T trust the dealer...!
