    Default Vectra Gearbox

HI guys, I have a 20003 Vectra 1.8 ls 16v, the other day I was just finishing work I was leaving the car park and I was about to put it in to second gear and there was a bang and crumbling, while I have been trying to find a replacement box people have said that there are two tyres of boxes F17 and F18, but I don't know which one I have in my car, is there any ways of checking? Or would it be easier to get thebox reconditioned, is there any places in Hertfordshire or NW London area that people could suggest? Also do anyone know the sort of price I will be looking around?
    Any help would beuch appriciated,

    Thanks

Phone vx and give them the reg, they will tell you what box it is, either that or pull the battery tray out and look on the top of the gearbox behind the gear selector it should be stamped in the top of the box.

I'd just ring vauxhall dealers speak to the parts department and ask the question, its far easier than messing about trying to find the number on the box.

Hi, I rung vauxhall earlier and a lady put me on hold and ask the mechanic, and she come back and said that it could be between 3 different ones but she didn't sound like she had a clue, so I will try again tomorrow.

The number that you need is undet the final drive unit look in from passangers wheel arch (wheel off) you will see a cover plate with 9 bolts in it the number is etched on this part it will look something like

    a341c34f1739

the part in the middle (f17) defines type of gear box and the rest make up the ratio gear setting
