Eek can unmarked cop cars legally tailgate??

last night when i was coming home from my misses house a silver audi (sk*7ebu) followed me out her street and onto the a71 where he tailgated me for 9miles before pulling me for a (random) stop check. supposedly loads of cars like mine get nicked from where she stays. i was rather confused as she lives in a really posh part of town, plus i thought all modern day cars were hard to steal. anyways the copper seemed to think it was legal for him to tailgate is this right?

can we name and shame unmarked cop motors?

They are supposed to stay the minimum safe distance for the speed, however it would seem that they are tailgating more often, most likely to push someform of reaction out of the driver and give a reason to pull you over.

Yep had it happen to me a number of times, big grin in the mirror and just below the speed limit must really wind them up. Got stopped on my way home from work at 4am friday with the old checking for stolen cars routine, the fact he didnt check anything then told me my name and address and said thats you isnt it kinda missed the point. I aint that well known to the law ha !

same here m8 think i've only been stopped twice in the 4yrs i've had it. as soon as they started tailgating i just sat at the 50 limit with cruise control on. really p**ses me off how they get away with it yet if we done it to them i'm surfe they wouldn't be shy in dishing out points :@:@:@

Jab your breaks on! If they hit you, its their fault as the highway code clearly states that if a following vehicle cant safely stop behind you, its being driven in an unsafe manor.

    Agree'd.....

Though im becoming quite fond of my Maglite 2D in night time tailgating situations, it's blinding even in daylight, so one blast of that thing through the rear window is more than enough

I'm sure they'd take kindly to that lol. It's right though, it appears that because they're unmarked they think they can get away with doing things that would normally get a motorist stopped.
