Default Y30DT Fuel Filter Replacement Question

    Hi,

I'm going to replace the fuel filter on my Signum 3.0DTI this weekend, but have a quick question.

I've heard that on the 4 pot 2.2's etc you should really prime the fuel system after replacing the filter using a special electric priming pump. This stops I believe ware of the fuel pump as it has the capability to run dry until the system is fully primed.

Do I need to worry about this situation on the 3.O, and what if any precautions should I take once I have replaced the filter element.

    Regards

    Antony

Turn the ignition on for 15 seconds and then off. Repeat this 5-10 times and it should start better or so I was told. Primes the system.

Make sure the seal is tight before starting the engine!
It may be wise to purchase a new housing gasket at the same time, costs about 16p

On restarting turn the engine over for about 5 second intervals, then turn off, and wait about 10 seconds
The engine should restart on the fourth or fifth attempt
When it does repeat the start process one more time, then let it idle for about 30 seconds
You may hear a "woosh" noise, that is quite normal as the air is expelled at high pressure

edit : You shouldn't have to make any more than 10 attempts, unless you also removed the diesel from the housing inlet pipe

    Thanks for the replies.

Does a genuine GM filter come with the housing gasket, or will I have to purchase that item separately??

The filter should come with two other seals, one for the housing and another for the bolt that holds the whole lot together. I'm not sure if the Y series engine differs from the Z series with regards to this, but that was what my 07 plate had...

All diesel engines use the same fuel filter

    Hi,
Possible silly question, but are these the same instructions to use if I've fully removed and cleaned out the canister? or do I have no choice but to emtpy the canister anyway lol?

Reason I ask is I'd like to change mine, on my Y30DT Auto, but I'd like to give the whole thing a thorough clean as I've used fuel system cleaner, so no use changing the filter if there's still a load of crap in the bottom, which will just start clogging up the system again when I start the engine.

    Regards
