    Default Signum problems.

I've got two problems at the moment (only 2 you cry).

    1. When I coast down hill (out of gear, engine at idle), engine temperature drops.
Is this normal or is my thermostat duff. Temp settings through secret menu tie up with gauge.

    2. Auto rain sensing wipers. When in operation, they work for a while, then upon heavy downpour, they seem to give up, resting just above their normal flat position.
    Is this the motor linkage?

Car still got warranty, so when I get back I'll book it in. Just wanted a bit of advice from the guys who know (rather than the stealers).

    Thanks

You should stay in gear when coasting. Saves fuel

True, but that slows you down, meaning you have to keep a steady throttle. Bit of a compromise really.

I actually do both, but in different situations!
Still only get 48mpg max, and that's mostly motorway work at 70mph (should expect more), which is why i suspect the thermostat is stuck open, engine taking too long to warm up, and average mpg down.

    Edit: Forgot to mention it's a 56 Signum Design 1.9 CDTi 150.

Overrun always brings the temperature down, on any car - where the guage is before it starts will tell you if your thermostat is knacked.

Not sure on the wipers, but the strange parking position does sound like the linkage.

The gauge shows about 85^C, secret menu shows a few degres more. This is normal (I assume). On coasting both go down to about 70^C. None of my old cars ever did this. I would think the thermostat would open/close all the time to maintain the correct operating temp.

Thewipers work OK for a while in intemittent, and no problems in normal mode (slow/fast).

Just need advice before the stealers fob me off (plus charge me diagnostics!)

My stat doesn't work as it should and my needle hardly moves (if at all) so with yours going upto 85oC and staying seems to point that its operating ok, maybe if anything its a little slow closing.

My V6 drops from 87-90 to about 75-80 when going downhill with no throttle at 120km/h.

Coasting also means your not in full control of the car, advised against in the highway code iirc. Also, you use more fuel and you have to brake more often so your wearing them out faster

    Thermostat is probably nacked.

    Update:
Took into Vx, said they could do the work for a tidy sum £750, which include a new rear screen as the elements are broken.
Anyway, when I said I've got the NetQ warranty, his jaw dropped. After a few days waiting for NetQ to agree the works, booked in for a new thermostat, new wiper motor and rear screen. Result
