Default Flip Key has lost it's flip?

On my keychain I have a lanyard and last night it got caught and yanked on the key whilst it was in the ignition, and now my flip key has gone limp, has anyone else experienced this?

The button you push to flip it is stuck in, and the key doesn't lock into place at the bottom or top, it has a lot of resistance pushing it into place at the top- have I broken the locking mechanism, as the spring seems to still have life.

Is this repairable- I don't want to go to the stealers and be told that I need a new key if there is any way to just fix the locking mechanism/the spring/the button.

i bought an opel key from flebay and transfered the innards of my old one into the new one, you could try opening the key and following the instructions on this video. think your spring might have came loose.

cheers guys will try and open it up, I was hoping I didn't need a replacement or anything- as the recoding is what's expensive isn't it? and I heard that you can't recode certain keys?

nearly fixed it after half opening it, didn't want to keep yanking it open as it seemed caught on something

it now locks into place folded in, and the button flips it out, but it doesn't lock open, it still has half movement into an L shape before it wont move without the button pressed, and then it still springs open.
