    Default Cambelt noise

After investigating and replaceing what i thought was a noisy alternator roller turns out to be coming from the cambelt area the noise is a whoosing which disapears when engine is warm, when i sprayed a small squirt of wd ( i know not a good idea to spray wd any where near the cambelt but it was a mineut squirt ) on the roller directly under the cam wheel the noise stopped. My question is, is this just a sign the belt and rollers need changing and if so is it worth doing the water pump at the same time.

imho i would always change the pump when doing the cam belt kit as the pump is only about £40.00 extra to buy and while it's in bit's it's easy to change...learn't the hard way years ago on my 16v astra cam belt kit £330.00 2 week's later water pump and cam belt kit £380.00

    Which book is that?

The official recommendation is 100,000 miles OR 10 years (whichever comes sooner) for the Z19DT & DTH engine (2006 onwards).

Could be a cambelt tensioner, if that's where you squirted the WD40. If it were me and I had the money, I'd get it replaced or do it myself. If the tensioner fails and seizes up, the belt will fail in seconds and you know the rest...

But I am not certain that I've understood your original post correctly.

Sorry, buddy. I'd have to defer to someone else's wisdom on this one. I am no expert on timing belts. I had a garage do my GSi for me. Next time, though, I shall do it myself.

I really do hope that you get to the bottom of the problem, though.

If it was mine I'd be changing the lot, any noise from that area is not good, I've had water pumps collapse on both the Z19DT and Z19DTH engine and that would throw the timing out and bend valves etc. If you're handy with the spanners you could easily do it yourself in a couple of hours. The way I look at it is its better to spend a couple of hundred quid on a new belt kit and waterpump (I believe they now do a kit with the waterpump in) and fitting (if you're unable to do it yourself) than spending 5-600 if the pump collapses or the tensioner fails or the belt snaps.
