Default My corsa c is dead

Sad story, My Corsa C 1.0L 3cl is dead. Bought it brand new back in 2002 and remembered the excitment waiting 3 months from order from adding on the sport bits and factory fitted irmscher kit & spectra wheels. Was the bees and Eees when i first got it as the Corsa C was only new model at the time a mine the 1st in the area with a body kit. Well I still have this wee motor aka "The Mick Mobile" and hasn't being working for the past 6 months. Just wont start, clicking noise when key is turned. local guy said trottle pod was problem but after paying £50 for one problem still not fixed. Now being told new ECU needed ( 3 ECU's replaced during warranty) Scrappy has quoted £100 for ECU kit including ECU,IMMOB,ENGITION&DAILS, will cost £80 to retest(NCT in rep of Ireland) if I get it going again plus new fan & rad needed.

Thing is Should i bother spending all that a pay a guy to do it all when I would prob only get £500 to sell it tested and running. But I love this wee car from my boy racing days.

    Will get better pics

    All Opinons welcome

And Yes i skipped the Astra and went from a Corsa to My current Vectra

This is a personal one for you decide...

If you will still drive it when it is fixed, then why not.
If it is just gonna stand for another 6 months, a year and so on, then maybe a good idea to sell it to an interested party on the Corsa enthusiasts forum.

I had this feeling last November...

Both sides of this...I had a heavily vandalised 1987 mk2 cavalier..it had to go to the crusher because it was not possible to get it back to a driveable state. I was Totally gutted!!

    but also

    I have a "nothing special" Cavalier Mk3 (1994) with basic 1.8 CFi.
I had fitted an Astra GTE Digi Dash, omega sunroof, omega illumnated evrything and a Vectra-C CD70 and GID...
It went for it's MOT in November and bombed out big style...car is worth about £200 if I'm lucky. Repairs would be over £400.

Did I put it back on the road? Hell yes!!!
Like you, I love my 215,500 mile old banger...still use it daily and I always smile when the digi dash and GID come on.

So...If you have similar feelings to mine then -to hell with the dosh....Give that Corsa some TLC!!

Had the same, I bought one in 2002, it was only 2 months old and an ex-demonstrator with 231 miles on it. Got the Irmscher front, 17 inch Team Dynamics, lowered, Clifford remote start, big stereo etc etc. It served the 60k miles well but was leaking oil and the engine was getting weak so traded it for a Tigra for the Mrs. Wish I had kept it.

As said, I wish I had not sold it. The Tigra is great for the Mrs as a mobile hairdressers car but was so attatched to the Corsa and wished I had spent the money keeping it right.

    Thanks for the kind comments,

I am a bit of a skin-flint, and look more to the economics of doing up a car I love and brings me vast amounts of pleasure, compared to the cost of a newer car

A decent car in half decent condition these days will cost at least a couple of thousand pounds.

For that, I could get a full professional engine rebuild (approx £600 to £1000), get the car brought fully up to near perfect nick..brake pipes, fuel pipes and known worn components sorted, good as new.

Not dissing the Vectra-C, but I only bought it for the wife ( for Christmas 2005), because the cav was hers, and I had put so many miles on it. Not fair to give it her back with an extra 90,000 miles on it.

my Dad had Cavaliers and Vectra so i always wanted a Vauxhall. The best he had was the 1986 1.8 SRI Marron over Black laods better than the 1990 2.0 8v Sri RED he had the 1996 vectra B 2.0 16v SRI also RED wasn't great on the corners but quick. My Dad keeps asking if I'll give him my Vectra C when iChange as he really likes it.

You have to remember that in the eighties and nineties, that the Cavalier used to be slated by the motoring press for being

    BORINGLY RELIABLE

Her indoors introduced me to Vauxhall, as the Mk2 Cav was hers also, then the Mk3 Cav and now the Vectra-C...

She wont have any other car...especially not a F**D
