Default Finding and cleaning scuttle drain channel

I have heard many scare stories about the scuttle panel filling with leaves and crud.

    This blocks the drainage tube.

The channel fills with rain water, past the pollen filter, and then overflows into the blower motor.

I checked mine today, and all was fine, but while it was out, I thought I would do a sequence of pictures to show where the pollen filter is, and also the drain tube.

    General sequence is

1 - pull rubber seal back to expose access flap
    2 - lift flap
    3 - clear out crud
4 - pull out pollen filter
5 - clear remains of crud - remember to squeeze bottom of drain tube to dislodge mud etc.
6 - refit in reverse of above operations

The next few pics show the top and bottom of the drain tube.

Nice one. I think a lot of members should have a look at theirs and maybe clean them out. They might save a lot of worry and cost with problems of water getting into the heater motor "etc".

there's just no reason not to..took me all of 20 seconds to check it out.

the 3rd picture shows the top of the fan motor...very close to the scuttle panel!!
therefore too close to possible water damage.

good advice but one further bit of preventative maintenence which i did was to cut the top 2/3 ins of a plastic bottle and put it into the drain tube, making sure the neck of the bottle is flush with the drain tube so any water can run out, the bottle ensures the free flow of water and no blockages occur hth.

If you think it is "Tidy" enough and that it is worthy.

Fortunate for me I don't park under trees, however I do live in the "Rainy City" of Manchester.

I understand that leaf and fallen tree matter is the main cause of build up.

PS..Don't tell me off, but I did notice that my pollen filter was almost black!!
I'll get a fresh one when I get paid next!.

Another thought...If you get a lot of steaming up of your screen, then it is a good sign that there is likely to be water collecting in the scuttle panel already.

I could make a tidier version, with fuller clearer instructions and illustrations if you wish.
