Default Help on Hijacked Internet connections?

I think that our connection has a problem. The dial up is getting slower and slower by the minute to the point it is almost unusable. Also the telephone number on the dial up window appears to vary. I don't recognise the numbers now used.

How can I tell if our dial up has been rerouted?

Not that I know too much about the subject, but I would have thought that a dial up line would be very safe, unless you have a wireless conection and perhaps some one with a laptop is useing your line, I dare say one of our more clued up members will enlighten us.

Sounds like you may have become a victim to a rogue dialler! Bit of software (like a virus) that somebody has inadvertently allowed to be installed. It then dials up a different number - gives you internet access - but charges a ridiculous amount per minute.

Have you got an example of one of the numbers it's now dialling - just the first four or five digits will do. If it's 0901 then that's definitely a dodgy number.

Removal is easy - you just need to go into your networking/dial-up settings and remove those settings.

    D.

Thats what I suspected. I am on Tesco, The dial up window looks a little different. The phone numbers used the be 08.........

Sometimes the number 12........ Which got me suspicious as theres no zero at the start.

I tried looking for the settings earlier, but I am not used to that part of XP. Where might it be?

If you can, it might be worth considering a move over to broadband as its not much more expensive lately. I was on dial up for years and never really wanted to move onto broadband but they made it so cheap that it was rude not to...

I do hope you haven't been re-routed and end up with a sizeable bill
