Default Can,t get rear door hadles to work

Took the read door handles off to respray them again and this time they will not play ball.

I,m winding the screw all the way back, fixing the stubby part, putting the door handle in place, winding the screw back up and the handle will not locate or fall back into place. What am I doing wrong?

I checked the bar and even removed it to check the function and reconnected it. The handle goes in by itself but when you pull the handle it moves away from the door how it should but thats it. Does not open the door and its both sides on the rear front works fine!

I,ve screwed it all the way in otherwise the handle would not sit down and you would be able to pull the small stubby part out.

I,ve spent 5 hours taking the door cards out, the locking mech, checking handles and I,m stumped. I,ve wound the screws in and out, taken the handles off a million times thrown them 2 million times and now I have a car with doors that do not open from the outside.

I must be missing something as its only the rear doors and why both of them?
