Default What am I looking out for?

Sorry mods, I know this is a repost but Im setting off on a 150 mile round trip to look at a Vectra at 8am and could really do with some help before I go...

I'm intending/very likely to be buying a 2003 Vectra 2.2dti sri tomorrow. However, I dont actually know what I should be checking whilst viewing the vehicle? Are there any common issues or tell tale signs of a wrong-un?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you and hello (again)

    Dave.

common problems with the DTI. err yeah.
DMF. Let the car idle and listen for clanking if you hear any suspicious noises dip the clutch and see if it goes away. If it does the DMF is shot. Huge bills to replace DMF and clutch. Then you have the DPF. Not an easy one to diagnose. check for smokey tail pipe.
Infact if you are only using the car for short journeys dont buy it and get a petrol.
If it is a high mileage car make sure the DMF (dual mass flywheel) has been changed as it will need doing soon enough.
Suspension springs are prone to snapping also so drive it over bumpy ground.
In all honesty if you want piece of mind dont buy a diesel. It is not just Vauxhall, Ford are just as bad and peugeot and renault etc etc etc. Modern diesels are expensive to maintain.

I do a 50 mile a day commute on fast roads so the economy is the main attraction. There is also a 1.9cdti 150 Sxi which has caught my attention but I really like the look of this 2.2dti!

Nowt wrong with diesels at all, i'm on my 3rd vec diesel & don't regret it at all.

the 2.2dti does not have a dpf so don't worry about that... you really should see the motor from a cold start & it should not struggle to fire.
rev the motor check for heavy smoking... this could be boost leak or turbo seals goosed.

see drive it if you like it buy it. If it feels wrong walk away. If it has good history then you know it has been looked after.

The DMF is not a common problem on the dti! Neither is it much of a problem on the 120cdti it's getting up to the 150 cdti's that they are common.

There are very few dti dmf related threads on this site (in comparison to the cdti) .

None of the Dti's were ever fitted with diesel particulate filters.

The most common problem on the DTi is the spanner light due to either the EGR needing cleaned/replaced, the boost sensor needing cleaned/replaced or splits/holes in the vacuum and boost pipes.

The pumps have been known to go (very rarely) but it's more commonly cheap supermarket fuel with no additivess that causes, this due to lack of lubrication for the pump.

There are no bullet proof diesels but the dti is a pretty solid lump if maybe a tad underpowered
