Multi plugs not attached .... is this normal?

I've just replaced a rear bulb in my estate and noticed a couple of plugs not attached to anything. One is a smallish one just hanging from the loom in front of the fuse holder unit, and the other is a larger multi plug not attached. On the right side of the fuse block there is an empty socket which is the same as the larger plug ..... but i daren't plug it in in case it blows something!!!

My car is a '56 Elite estate and all the electric tailgate and other stuff are ok.

Any idea's ??

Any photos mate? Might help us figure out what the plug on the fusebox is for...

Here we go. The small one i'm holding seems to come from the same loom as the lights ... maybe for towing or trailer lights??
As for the other ... dunno!!

How very odd - I assume there's nothing that isn't working in the car itself?

Yeah, everything all working fine. Its a mystery !!

I will call my mate Wilco and have a look at his wires ... he has similar age SRi estate.

It's for the factory fit towbar which folds underneath the car for storage rather than detachable. The one in your hand connects onto the release handle for the towbar and is used to illuminate a light to indicate the towbar is correctly secured in the towing position. The other is for the tow bar wiring and runs to another multi plug which is under the stowage area under the boot floor. Unless you get hold of the correct folding towbar it's no use whatsoever i'm afraid
